– waste disposal such as MSW landfills, combustion ash, low level nuclear waste,  mine tailings etc,
– barriers of energy and mineral extraction such as brine ponds for solar energy and fracking applications,
– remediation and reuse of contaminated land  resulting from such as containment of hydrocarbon spills.
