Joseph Labuz

Joseph Labuz is MSES/Kersten Professor and Department Head of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering at the University of Minnesota. His area of expertise is experimental geomechanics, dealing with (1) strength and constitutive behavior of rock,  (2) quasi-brittle fracture and post-peak response, (3) acoustic emission and imaging techniques. Labuz has advised 49 graduate students and published 90 papers in refereed journals. He is on the editorial board of Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment, International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, among others. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
